Lightroom version 6.0, officially Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC 2015, was the last major release of Lightroom that was available with a perpetual license (i.e. A one-time purchase). Adobe Lightroom 6 locks up and fails when moving from the library mode to the develop mode. It is completely unresponsive and does not allow you to do anything, but shut it down. It makes it totally impossible to process images. This is a fairly good book on the Adobe Lightroom 6 system, albeit getting a bit long in the tooth by now. The authors said there is a set of videos available and all I had to do was go through a slightly complicated process of accessing the videos and get updated info and additional material.
A reader sent me this email on how to download Lightroom 6 – apparently Adobe has removed all download links, except one – if you need LR6, you better download it right away because I am sure Adobe will remove the link after this post goes live:

If you bought Lightroom 6 online, you can go to the Catalog page to find and download it. In case you bought a physical version like me, you will need a direct link to download Lightroom 6. Adobe hides it on this page. Both of the Windows and MacOS versions are available here.
Then, you just need to download the software and install it on your computer. During the installation, Adobe still requires you to sign in to your account, however, the CC subscription is not necessary and they won’t show any error. When you run it for the first time, you will be able to license it with your serial number.
