Icom Decoding

Icom rigs have their own unique way of providing information to external rigs based on the current band. This information is provided on a single pin on the ACC-2 socket by varying the voltage from 0-8V (see figure below). Most peripheral equipment use the ubiquitous YAESU band data method as follows. ICOM IC-R8600 10kHz–3GHz Software Defined Wideband Receiver w/Multiple Digital Mode Decode. Ultra-wide frequency coverage (10kHz-3GHz) with RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication) function. Fast moving, real-time spectrum scope and waterfall functions. Decodes multiple digital protocols, including D-STAR, NXDN™, dPMR™ and APCO P25.

The Icom IC-PCR1000-02 BON wideband computer receiver connects externally to your PC. This provides compatibility with many computer models, even laptops. Incredible coverage is yours with reception from 10 kHz to 1300 MHz (less cellular). Modes of reception (and bandwidth) include AM (15/6 kHz), FM-Wide (230 kHz), FM-Narrow (15/6 kHz), SSB (2.8 kHz) and CW (2.8 kHz). A triple conversion circuit ensures good performance over the entire range. Shortwave sensitivity (1.8-28 MHz) is an impressive 0.28µV. The PCR1000 lets you choose from three interface screens: Communications Receiver Screen, Component Receiver Screen or Radio Screen. Click here to view screens.

Other refinements include: Unlimited Memories, IF Shift, NB, AFC, Voice Scan Control, CTCSS decode, six scan types and on-line help. A powerful Band Scope function allows you to visually check signals within a specified frequency range. The span range may be selected as: ± 25 kHz, ± 50 kHz, ± 100 kHz or ± 200 kHz. The PCR1000 does come with an AC adapter, but can also be powered from 12 VDC at 0.7 Amps (with optional OPC-131 DC power cable). Only 5'x7.9'x1.2' 2 lbs. 3 oz.

The PCR1000-04 model is the same as above, but without the 824-849 / 869-894 MHz cellular gap and was available for government or qualifying communications provider purchase order or for export only.

IC-R8500 : HIGH PERFORMANCE SOFTWARE DEFINED RECEIVER
The IC-R8600 is a super wideband 10 kHz to 3 GHz communication receiver that enables you to hear and see a wide variety of signals in various ways. Not only does it decode diverse digital communication signals, but the advanced FPGA processing technologies implemented provide clarity and accuracy of received signals.
With the optional remote control software for a Windows® PC, received audio and spectrum scope data can be transferred through an IP network for monitoring from remote locations.
10 kHz to 3 GHz Super Wideband Coverage
The IC-R8600 decodes various digital protocol signals including P25 (Phase 1), NXDN™, dPMR™, D-STAR, Japanese DCR (Digital Convenience Radio) as well as receives conventional analog signals
such as USB, LSB, FSK, CW, AM, S-AM (Synchronous-AM), FM and WFM modes, covering 10 kHz to 3 GHz wideband in 1 Hz steps.
Absolute Value of RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator)
The IC-R8600 shows S-meter, dBμ, dBμ (emf) and dBm meter types in the RSSI. The dBμ, dBμ (emf) and dBm meter has a high ±3 dB accuracy* (between 0.5–1100 MHz) that can be used for measuring signal strength level. * Less than ±6 dB between 1100–3000 MHz
Software Demodulation in FPGA Processing
The IC-R8600 utilizes FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) and DSP units for demodulation, decoding and most of signal processing. Direct HF signals and intermediate frequency signals, which are converted from VHF/UHF signals, are digitized in a 14-bit A/D converter and transferred to the FPGA and DSP for optimal processing. The high-rate 122.88 MHz sampling frequency used for the A/D converter results in superior aliasing and image reception reduction
